When laying a new Patio we ensure the footings are firm.  Firstly we dig out the area to have slabs laid and then put a 4" layer of hardcore down.  This is then compressed with a roller or vibrator machinery to ensure it is well bedded in.  On top of this a 4" layer of concrete is then added to ensure the slabs will not move or be affected by the cold and frost.

 

We have found that slabs laid on a  bed of concrete or sand & cement, the corners of the slabs lift and move and get damp underneath.  This causes the pointing to fall into the gaps, dirt will also settle in there and the weeds start to grow.

When we point your Patio, we use a material called "Rock Hard" which is mixed in with the cement and makes the pointing twice as hard as usual.  To further enhance your Patio, we do Arrow pointing rather than the normal flat finish or Rubbing Iron style.

This all enhances your patio and ensures a longer life with maintenance.
