Driveways

At Sussex Evergreen we can suggest many different designs for your driveway from plain concrete, block paving, slabs, bricks, York stone and crazy paving.

When starting a drive, we will always dig out any remaining old concrete, hard core or soil.  We will then dig out an area deep enough to take 3-4 inches of crushed concrete or type 1 road stone.  This is then flattened using a vibrating roller or whacker plate.

We then use at least 6 inches of concrete to set the stones, bricks or slabs in place, plus sheets of reinforced mesh at the bottom of the concrete to take the stress of cars / removal vans using your driveway.

If you choose a block paving driveway, then we will dig deep enough to take at least 7-8 inches

of road stone which is again compressed down using a vibrating roller.  We then use sharp sand

to a depth of 50mm.  The paving blocks are laid down after the sand is levelled and whacked down.

After all the blocks are laid, we use Kiln dried sand in the gaps between the blocks.  This is then brushed in and whacked down using a whacker plate.

We can also coat your driveway with a resin which will seal your driveway and gives a shiny finish to the blocks, slabs or bricks.
